Teva receives US approval for generic version of Johnson & Johnson contraceptive, launches drug

Teva announced Wednesday that the FDA approved its generic version of Johnson & Johnson’s Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (norgestimate/estrogen). Shipment of the contraceptive, which Teva plans to market as Tri-Lo Sprintec, has begun.

Teva reported that it was awarded a 180-day period of marketing exclusivity. The drugmaker is presently facing a patent litigation lawsuit brought by Johnson & Johnson regarding the contraceptive, however a trial date has not been set.
