Posted on 10 July 2009

Pfizer stated Thursday that it will appeal a decision made by the Canadian Federal Court that invalidates its patent for the active ingredient of Norvasc (amlodipine), which the drugmaker says expires in 2010. Ratiopharm, which brought the lawsuit against Pfizer, indicated that its generic version of the hypertension drug will be available “imminently” in the country.

Norvasc has faced competition in the US since March 2007.
